Introducing a New Model for Data Collaboration Without Data Transfer, Aligned with Global Data Space Initiatives
BigObject has been awarded first place at the 2026 EU-Japan Hackathon on Interoperability of Digital Public Infrastructure, and was also recognized as a co-winner of a secondary award, emerging as one of the most prominent international teams.
The hackathon, held during EU-Japan Digital Week in Tokyo, focused on a critical global challenge: enabling data to be shared and utilized across countries while ensuring security, governance, and trust—key pillars of digital public infrastructure.
This challenge is closely aligned with the global development of Data Space frameworks, which aim to establish interoperable and governed data-sharing environments across organizations and countries. These frameworks are often guided by the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and are becoming central to digital policies in the EU and Japan.
Competing against 12 teams from Japan, Europe, and India, BigObject stood out with its solution powered by Aralia, proposing a fundamental approach:
Enabling trusted cross-domain data collaboration while preserving data sovereignty.
Rather than relying on centralized data transfer, BigObject’s approach allows data to remain with its original owners while still being securely accessed and utilized within a controlled environment.
This architecture is also designed with the potential to integrate with international Data Space ecosystems, supporting future cross-border data collaboration and digital infrastructure development.

From supply chain optimization to cross-border decision-making, this model enables organizations to unlock the value of distributed data without compromising control or trust.
As the global digital economy continues to evolve, enabling data to be usable without requiring it to move will become a key competitive advantage. BigObject will continue to expand Aralia’s role in real-world applications and international collaborations.
